Water Digitization at Rock for People

Ensuring the smooth operation of the festival grounds for more than 50,000 visitors poses a huge challenge, particularly in terms of infrastructure, water supply, and sanitation. Experience from previous years has shown that the original water supply system for the Park360 grounds—which relied on water tankers and older distribution networks – is reaching its limits.

We began collaborating with Ameba Production – the operator of the Park360 venue and organizer of Rock for People – on the design of a new water management infrastructure concept even before the RfP 2025 festival. The goal of the project is to enhance visitor comfort, stabilize water supply, and simultaneously reduce the environmental impact of the entire venue.

Data as the Foundation for the New Infrastructure Design

The first step involved mapping actual operations during the festival. Nextdrop technology was deployed at selected restroom facilities to provide detailed monitoring of water consumption and infrastructure operations throughout the festival grounds and the adjacent campground.

The data collected provided an accurate overview of water consumption, pressure fluctuations, the load on individual restroom facilities, and critical moments during the festival days. This analysis served as the basis for designing a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade aimed at minimizing outages and reducing long lines for restrooms and showers during peak hours.

A New Water Management Ecosystem

For the 2026 edition, a new model for supplying water to the festival grounds is being developed in collaboration with several partners. Water for the campground will now be drawn from a local source—the Správčický Písník. It will then be treated into drinking water directly on-site using a mobile membrane treatment plant. Water Worx, a company specializing in the implementation of temporary water management infrastructure, will optimize the water distribution system on the grounds. Nextdrop’s role will be to integrate the various technologies through a digital water control center.

The digital control center will enable:

  • continuous monitoring of water supply and consumption,
  • the identification of unusual behavior at distribution and consumption points,
  • predictive management of water distribution in real time.

More Sustainable Operation of Large Events

The project demonstrates how data analytics and modern technologies can significantly streamline the operation of large temporary venues. In addition to greater operational stability, the new system also reduces the environmental footprint and eases the burden on local infrastructure. Above all, however, it provides a more comfortable experience for every festival visitor.

The digitization of water management at festival venues is thus becoming an important part of the modern and sustainable operation of large cultural events.
