Pilsen, the City of Water

A press conference hosted by the City of Pilsen was held at the TechTower Technology Park in Pilsen, where we participated as a technology partner. At the event, the city officially assessed the performance of the digital water management system to date, and the results clearly show that this approach makes a lot of sense.

Pilsen as a “Living Laboratory” in Practice

As Councilman Daniel Kůs emphasized during the conference, Pilsen has long positioned itself as a “laboratory” where innovative solutions with real-world impact are given a chance to thrive. At nextdrop, we’re proud to be one of the concrete examples of this vision. Since our inception at the University of West Bohemia, thanks to the support of the Pilsen Innovation Ecosystem (PINE) and the organizations SIT Port and BIC Pilsen, we’ve grown into a company whose technology today helps the city save hundreds of thousands of crowns.

What do the numbers from Pilsen’s buildings show?

Specific cases were highlighted at the press conference where digital monitoring of water consumption helped prevent significant losses:

  • FC Viktoria Plzeň: At the stadium in Štruncovy sady, we detected a hidden leak with a flow rate of 80 liters per minute. Timely intervention prevented a monthly loss of nearly 500,000 crowns.
  • TechTower: In this modern building, our system identified over 60 hidden leaks in less than two years, resulting in savings of approximately 15% of total water consumption.
  • Pilsen Schools: At the 7th Elementary School and Kindergarten, daily water consumption per student fell by 18% thanks to timely leak detection. Currently, our sensors are also monitoring the 11th and 25th Elementary Schools, and other schools can take advantage of support from the Environmental Fund through October 2026.
  • Citywide Impact: In total, nearly 100 hidden water leaks have already been detected in Pilsen buildings.

Thanks to Our Partners and the Entire Team

The press conference drew a large turnout of journalists and took place in a very positive atmosphere. Thanks to the excellent organization, there was also plenty of opportunity for informal meetings and networking among the invited guests.

We would like to thank our partners – the City of Pilsen, Vodárna Plzeň, SITMP, and other institutions, including FC Viktoria Plzeň, Techmania Science Center, TechTower, and our pilot schools that participated in the project -for their long-standing trust.

Special thanks also go to the Pilsen Innovation Ecosystem (PINE). Together, we are demonstrating that the digitization of water is one of the keys to a sustainable and safe future for modern cities.
